Candelit Vigil Exeter city centre> To mark International Animal Rights Day on Thursday 10 December
(see www.uncaged.co.uk/iard.htm for details of this annual event).
EFFA supporters gathered amid the late-night Christmas shopping crowds to highlight the issue of animal suffering in the "season of goodwill", and to make the case for extending to all sentient beings the basic principles of protection and compassion enshrined in the Human Rights Act. A new Uncaged leaflet with tips for a cruelty-free lifestyle was handed out to the public.

Global Boycott Procter & Gamble Day Exeter High Street
There was participation all over the world for this year's Global Boycott
Procter and Gamble Day. For our part, we held an information stall in the city
centre where we gave out leaflets and P&G product lists to get our message
across. We also collected lots of petitions. Literature this year focussed on
Herbal Essences as this product seems to draw the most interest from the public
who are mostly unaware - and rather shocked to be informed - that it is tested
on animals. Uncaged is calling on Herbal Essences manufacturer Procter and
Gamble to end all animal testing of its cosmetics and household products and
support the forthcoming EU ban. The organisation is also lobbying MPs to support
monitoring of current legislation, which limits animal testing of products sold
in the UK. For more information about Procter and Gamble visit:

Grand National Day Sidwell Street, Exeter
Thanks to everyone who turned out for our demo against the Grand National. We distributed a lot of leaflets
outside the bookmaker's and managed to dissuade quite a few people from placing a bet. Importantly there was a
general sense that the message is starting to get through to the general public. Sadly we hear that this year
there were 5 casualties in total during the 3-day racing event.
Thanks to Sean's roving camera we once again have a video reminder of our campaigning activities:

Viva! Campaign Launch: The Big Cover Up Exeter High Street
We were in Exeter City Centre opening the
public's eyes to the suffering of animals at the heart of the wool industry. We
joined in a demonstration organised by Viva! and created a thought-provoking
scene to educate shoppers about what really happens to animals in the name of
fashion. We donned masks to look like a group of
'sheep' revolting against 'Bo Beep' over their stolen wool and called on
consumers to boycott the product and industry.
Viva! were launching their
national The Big Cover Up campaign. It looks at the suffering that could be
hiding within consumer's wardrobes. The Big Cover Up uncovers the reality behind
wool, fur, silk and leather production. As part of the The Big Cover Up, Viva!
have produced a new report Died in the Wool, which uncovers the horrors of the
wool industry. More info can be found here:

Animal Aid Day of Action "End Primate Experiments" Exeter High Street
We held an information stall with Toni Vernelli and Kate from Animal Aid today to support the campaign to try and end primate experiments in Europe. Sharon and Sue suffered cold bottoms as they sat in two wire cages wearing monkey masks to represent imprisoned primates, and the display was eye-catching and certainly drew attention. We gave out lots of leaflets and had a positive reaction from the public who filled in postcards to their MEPs urging them to uphold the will of the European Parliament, which voted resoundingly for a phase-out of primate research, but which is in danger of being ignored by the European Commission. More information on the Animal Aid campaign can be found at: www.animalaid.org.uk/h/n/CAMPAIGNS/experiments/ALL/1330/

Day of Action for Pigs Exeter High Street
We held an information stall on Valentine's Day as part of a joint campaign by Viva! and Animal Aid, based on
their undercover investigations of British pig farms. Wearing our "Have a Heart" badges as
our Valentine's message we leafleted the public to alert them to the awful truth about British pork. For more
information about the campaign, see the Viva! and Animal Aid websites (on our links page).
